Hello sunshine, goodbye sun spots

At Vitalify Aesthetics in Dupont Circle DC, our laser skin treatment devices treat a wide range of skin concerns, including hyperpigmentation, uneven skin texture, and fine lines.

The Moxi Laser is a gentle, non-ablative laser that uses fractionated wavelengths to heat the deeper layers of the skin and stimulate collagen production without damaging the skin’s surface.

The BroadBand Light (BBL) Photofacial is a phototherapy treatment that utilizes intense pulsed light (IPL) technology to remove brown spots, red spots, and unwanted pigment from the skin.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Laser Treatments in Washington, DC

A series of three treatments is typically recommended. Moxi and BBL can be combined for the best possible results.

  • First, we numb the skin with a topical numbing cream. After about 20 minutes of numbing, we cleanse the face and begin your treatment.
  • Immediately following your treatment, you may notice some redness and swelling. There is no downtime necessary, so many patients continue their day as usual – plus additional sun protection.
  • Swelling will subside around 2-3 days after your treatment, and temporary dark spots may begin to form on the skin. These will fall away with time, revealing the fresh, new skin beneath.

While Moxi requires less downtime than many lasers, you may experience redness, swelling, and itching for up to one week following your laser treatment. Most of our patients completely heal within one week.

  • Immediately following your treatment, you may apply cool water compresses or clean ice packs to alleviate any discomfort or swelling. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, and avoid excess sweating, pools, hot tubs, or makeup brushes for at least 24 hours.
  • After 24 hours, you can apple makeup with clean brushes ONLY.
  • As your skin begins to develop a micro-crust and flake off, please do not pick or peel. Instead, apply a gentle, unscented moisturizer. Continue to reapply sunscreen diligently for the next two weeks and treat your skin gently (no scrubbing or physically exfoliating).

A Moxi Laser treatment takes between 30-45 minutes, depending on the treatment area and treatment type. This time frame includes approximately 20 minutes to fully numb the skin.

To prepare for your Moxi laser treatment, you should avoid sub exposure for at least two weeks prior (in order to avoid developing a tan or burn), stop using active skincare ingredients for 2-3 days beforehand, and arrive at your appointment moisturized and fake-tan-free.

The Moxi Laser is a gentle, non-ablative laser that uses fractionated wavelengths to heat the deeper layers of the skin and stimulate collagen production without damaging the skin’s surface.

  • Moxi is NOT recommended if you:
    • Are on strong antibiotics or actively using retinol
    • Have recently been tanning in the sun or a sunbed
    • Have used fake tanner within the last two weeks
    • Have active skin infections, open wounds, or cold sores
    • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • The Moxi laser works by stimulating the body to produce collagen, which then works to repair and rejuvenate the skin. You may notice results within just a few weeks, but you’ll see your complete results within three months.
  • This process requires some patience, but the results are worth the wait!

A series of 3-4 treatments are typically recommended for treating hyperpigmentation, although this can vary.

  • To prepare for your treatment, we first cleanse the skin, apply your treatment gel, and provide eye protection.
  • The sapphire-tipped applicator delivers concentrated beams of light into the skin, blasting unwanted pigment, tissue, or blood vessels, without overheating the tissue.
  • The treatment area will feel warm for the next 30-60 minutes while your body begins to repair the damaged tissue and replace it with fresh, spot-free skin.

The BBL Photofacial requires little to no downtime. You may experience mild redness immediately following your treatment, but that should dissipate within a few hours. However, it is important to be diligent about applying and reapplying your sunscreen for at least two weeks after your treatment.

  • Aftercare is simple: use just a gentle cleanser and moisturizer on your skin for the first night, and be diligent about applying and reapplying your sunscreen for at least two weeks following your treatment.
  • Additionally, make sure to avoid excess sweating, pools, hot tubs, or unwashed makeup brushes for at least 24 hours, in order to avoid infection.

BBL Photofacial is a quick treatment: it only takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

  • BBL Photofacial is not safe for patients who:
    • Have darker skin tones, especially those with Fitzpatrick skin type VI
    • Have recently received excessive sun exposure (whether you’ve burned or not)
    • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

You will begin to see results within just one or two treatments – and your results will only continue to improve over time.
