Microneedling Treatments

For skin smoother than your morning matcha latte

Microneedling is a noninvasive treatment that uses a pen-like device to stimulate collagen production, improving:

  • Skin texture
  • Fine lines and moderate wrinkles
  • Large pores
  • Scarring (including acne scars)
  • Overall skin tone and radiance

From Fine Lines to Flawless:
The Natural Way

The SkinPen Microneedling device has tiny needles on the tip, which create microscopic punctures in the skin. These “micro-injuries” are invisible to the naked eye, but are substantial enough to trigger the body’s natural healing process.

As the body produces collagen and elastin, which it uses to replace textured, scarred skin with skin that is beautiful, smooth, and flawless.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Microneedling in Washington, DC

The benefits of microneedling are wide-reaching: collagen-stimulating treatments heal the skin as a whole, so they typically address both texture and tone.

SkinPen Microneedling is a collagen-stimulating treatment that is particularly effective at treating textural concerns like ice pick scars, rolling scars, boxcar scars, other acne scars, injury scars, surgical scars, hypertrophic scars, and stretch marks. At the same time, microneedling will also improve the appearance of enlarged pores, skin tone, fine lines, and early-stage wrinkles.

Microneedling generally produces the best results with scars that are depressed or pitted. Microneedling produces collagen, and scars that are raised indicate that there is already an excess of collagen in that area.

Yes! We always numb our patients’ skin before starting their microneedling treatment.

We do not recommend microneedling at home. At-home devices do not use super-fine needles or the strict sterilization process we use at Vitalify, increasing the likelihood of permanent damage or infection to the skin. Additionally, at-home devices can’t (safely) penetrate the skin as deeply as the SkinPen Microneedling device, so your results won’t be as dramatic. We also offer numbing in-office before treatment. Microneedling your face without numbing first is likely to be an uncomfortable experience.

We use SkinPen for our microneedling treatments at Vitalify Aesthetics in Dupont Circle, Washington, DC. SkinPen is an FDA-cleared microneedling device that is considered to be the gold standard for microneedling treatments.

Many patients ask whether a laser or microneedling is the best choice for treating their acne scars. While non-ablative lasers like the Moxi Laser are a great choice for treating fine lines, mild acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and an uneven or dull skin tone, microneedling is generally considered the better choice for addressing deep acne scarring.

Chemical peels are highly effective at treating surface-level damage like skin tone, hyperpigmentation, pore size, and mild fine lines and scarring. Because microneedling treatments work at a deeper level than chemical peels, microneedling is considered to be the better choice for addressing deep acne scarring and other textural concerns like moderate fine lines and wrinkles.

We only offer our microneedling treatments with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), PRF, or PDGF applied topically to the skin, as the results are dramatically better than microneedling alone. PRP can also be injected directly into the skin for more concentrated collagen stimulation.

Microneedling Aftercare: It’s best to treat your face as though it is one large open wound. For the first 24-48 hours after your treatment, you should avoid applying makeup or any active skincare ingredients (like VItamin C, retinol, or acne treatments like AHA, BHA, and benzoyl peroxide). Instead, apply soothing, fragrance-free moisturizer and sunscreen.

Additionally, we recommend avoiding excessive sweating, hot tubs, or pools, in order to avoid the risk of infection.

At Vitalifty Aesthetics in Dupont Circle, DC, we offer microneedling treatments along the scalp and hairline as a way to treat hair loss and improve hair growth. We also offer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for hair loss.
